• Year 1 - Lego Workshop

  On Thursday 30^th November Year 1 took part in a Lego workshop focussing on London landmarks including Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Throughout the workshop the children were set a number of challenges including constructing a London landmark using the fewest bricks, making their structure bigger and using a brick pattern. The final challenge was to work as part of a team to use the brick pattern and construct Tower Bridge. Everyone had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed their experience. 

  

• Sponsored Skipping Event

  After an extremely wet and windy week, we were fortunate to have perfect skipping weather for our sponsored skip fundraiser on Friday 3^rd November 2023. It was only made more exciting by the arrival of a cement mixer, to offload the first load of concrete to be poured into the foundations of our new classroom build!

   

  Every child showed great persistence and resilience as they skipped their hearts out to raise funds for the school to put towards extra curricular activities for the year. We hope your child came home full of the enthusiasm they demonstrated for this event and inspired to do more skipping or try a new active skill.   We are so thrilled to announce that with your help we have raised an enormous £2,565.50!

   

  We are absolutely stunned with the tremendous support that you have provided and are very excited to get planning on how we can use these funds to further enrich our curriculum. The initial plan is to present a small portion of the costs to the school council and under Mrs Rugg’s guidance plan a small expenditure that is purely led by the children.

   

  Each time some of these raised funds are spent, we will be sure to update you on what the sponsorship money has purchased or funded.

   

  Many thanks for your continued support! It is time now for us to get thinking about what we can do to top this!

  

• Key Stage 2 - Spanish Day

  On Friday 20^th October, all of our Key Stage 2 classes participated in our second Spanish enrichment day. The theme for this day was ‘Colombia’ and all activities planned centered around this Spanish-speaking country. The day was jam packed with activities including Spanish Bingo, a Spanish lesson all about Colombia, creating our own Colombian masks also making and tasking our own coconut lemonade. A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by everyone (including the teachers) and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces immersed in learning a Modern Foreign Language and sharing some of Colombia’s culture. We would like to say an enormous thank you to Miss Lapwood (our MFL Coordinator) who planned a fantastic learning experience for us all to share.

  

• Year 5 - Trip to Thriftwood

  It was a long and exhilarating day at Thriftwood on Monday 16^th October with Year 5 and I’m sure your child has told you all about it! It was a fun-filled and enriching day for all that were involved with lots of activities to take part in such as: bushcraft, rifle range, high ropes, pedal cars, craft stacking and an assault course. I am sure they all cannot wait to go back for their residential in Year 6!

  

• Years 3 to 6 - Steelpan workshop

  On Wednesday 11^th October, we were visited by the Irie Steelpan Workshop!

   

  The children were treated to a morning performance (and dance!) in the hall. The performance consisted of some typical Caribbean tunes, some well-known music from Bob Marley and a very well-known sporting tune! Individual classes in Key Stage 2 then got to try out playing the steel drums, and dancing some more, in individual class workshops. During these, we learnt about how the different dents adjust the pitch of the music and allow these well known tunes to be played on such a simple creation. Some of us learnt to play some simple tunes and other had a go playing the bass drum.

   

  We had a superb day with Junior and Marcella, shared lots of enjoyment and dancing with our friends, whilst learning learnt lots about the steel drum and Caribbean culture along the way!

• Year 5 - Fire Station visit

  As part of our science topic of ‘properties and changes of materials’ we have been looking at the changes that happen to the properties of materials when they burn. Miss Lapwood and Miss Howlett arranged for the year 5 children to visit Halstead Fire Station. During our visit, the children learnt about the fire service and the equipment that they use to keep themselves and others safe. As well as having a look around the fire engine. We had a fun filled morning and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and cannot wait to go back! 

  

• Year 6 - Football Tournament

  On Monday some of our Year 6 pupils attended a Football Tournament hosted by The Ramsey School.  

  We played 6 local primary schools in 10 minute, 7 a side games.  

  We did not bring back a medal this time, but we can see that with a little more training, we have the skills and determination to be successful in the future.  

  It was wonderful to hear the children encouraging and supporting each other, they were an amazing team.

  Well done to all of the children who participated, we are so proud of you!   

  

• Year 3 - Mysterious Activity

  On Tuesday Year 3 had found something had destroyed their classroom! They used their detective skills and found some vital clues including an open window,  claw marks and even some mysterious footprints. The children explored the field for more clues and found a scaly egg in a nest! They carefully took the nest back and were inspired to write some descriptions in case it was taken back by the mother. A week later the nest contained a scroll with a note from author Cressida Cowell explaining that it may be a dragon egg! The children are in the process writing their own dragon report. We will keep you updated on the mother's whereabouts....

  

• Year 2 Visit Hedingham Castle!

  On 7^th March, Year 2 went on an exciting trip to Hedingham Castle to understand more about the features of a castle and what life would have been like. We started the day on a double decker bus which the children loved as they could see from high up!  When we arrived at the castle, Andy was our tour guide, and the children were really interested to learn about Medieval weapons and try on different parts of armour.

   

  They particularly enjoyed seeing the dungeon and learning about the terrible conditions people would have lived in. During the tour, the children were able to act out lords, ladies and even peasants to understand life at the castle. After, the children had lunch in the basement where they could see the old shields and their coat of arms. 

   

  Luckily, it was a glorious sunny day so, in the afternoon, everyone could explore the beautiful castle grounds. The snowdrops were out, and the children were amazed that the flowers looked like carpets of snow in the forest! Finally, we had playtime in the grounds and the children were able to practise their bowling skills with a game of Tudor skittles. We all had a fantastic day and everyone learnt a lot about our local history.    

  

• Quidditch

  On Wednesday Key Stage 2 were visited by the coaches from Enrich Education to experience a day of Quidditch!

  The children enjoyed a 'Sorting hat' assembly to identify the teams they would be in for the day, learnt and experienced a new sport and celebrated the top scorers and team winners  'Hufflepuff' won a yellow ribboned cup in an assembly at the end of the day too.
