Dear Parents/Carers
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY – BE RESPONSIBLE – SUPPORT EACH OTHER
Following the announcement from the Government that school closure will not be "an educational setting" but a "safe place" for critical workers to leave their children and the publication of the ‘key worker’ list, we need to collect details of which families fall into this group so we can plan accordingly.
Last week's Reading together session on World Book Day was a phenomenal success. The hall was packed with parents and children - ALL reading together! The children loved their bookmarks, which were carrots or pumpkins. There are 17 bookmarks to collect....which one will be given out this week?
On Sunday 8th March, Richard de Clare gymnastics travelled to Chelmsford Gymnastics Club to participate in the floor and vault County Final, having won our area competition. We are through to the national finals in May.
We would like to announce that Mr Rob James has been promoted to the role of CEO of North Essex Multi Academy Trust.
A massive congratulations to the Sports Hall Athletics Team for competing in and winning the Level 2 finals on Monday. It was a great event and the children showed amazing teamwork and determination!
This means we will now be attending the county championships at Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre on Wednesday 11th March, competing as part of the top 14 schools in Essex.
Our Seasonal Celebration performances have now finished. Thank you to everyone who came. Each year group also produced a hamper to raffle off at each performance. We raised an amazing £289 to go towards our defibrillator!
The Book Bus came to visit us today. Children from Year 4, 5 and 6 swapped some of our library books for new ones. The children can't wait to get reading!
Year Five enjoyed an exciting trip to The Ramsey Academy this week as part of their topic on The Ancient Greeks and ceramics. They learnt new skills and made clay pots that will be fired and then painted at school. The children found making the pots a good challenge but they had great fun making them and they learnt a lot. Thank you to The Ramsey Academy for hosting the sessions.
Artist in residence and ex pupil Will Claridge worked with every pupil in the school to create a very special memory to mark the school's 175th anniversary. We are delighted with the finished work of art.

Local artist, Will Claridge, visited Year 3 this week. He engaged the children by talking about his own artwork and inspirations. He linked the artwork to their topic of Jack and The Beanstalk by doing leaf printing.
Well done to Kayla (Y5), Chloe (Y5) and Sasha (Y3) for being our top 3 readers during the challenge! A special mention goes to Summer (Y2) for raising £83, Mazie-Grace (EYFS) for raising £25 and Lacey (EYFS) for raising £10! The school read a total of 199,603 minutes!
Our Country Dancers performed maypole and country dances at the May Day celebration in the Public Gardens on Monday. They danced beautifully and represented our school so well. A special mention also goes to the HSA for their stall to raise a few more pennies for the Cozy Cabin project!
Last week, Year 3 had a very special visit from a local artist, Mr Gardner. The children had a go at creating their own abstract painting using a variety of mediums.
Ivan in Year 4 was recently featured in Colchester Hospital's Diabetes Team newsletter! He shared the recipe Year 4 used to make their salad nicoises last term.
Peter, Y5, placed 42nd in the Year 5 division of the Essex County Cross Country final on Friday. He also placed 1st in our region, North West Essex. We are so proud of his achievements, along with the whole of the Cross Country team!
Sewing Club for this term has finished. The children have made some beautiful little pillows! A letter will be sent home this week if your child is interested in joining the club after the Easter holiday (Y4-6 only).
Richard de Clare received their Healthy Schools award at a ceremony held at the Chelmsford City race course on Tuesday. Staff and our Healthy schools ambassadors, Sophie and Henry, picked up the award which recognises the hard work everybody from our school community puts in to improve the health of our children. the award recognised areas such as healthy school dinners, lessons and curriculum that share important lessons on healthy lifestyles and improved access to physical activities and clubs.
Six of our children went to Chelmsford Racecourse this week to participate in the Multi-School Council anti-bullying event. There were a range of workshops including role playing different scenarios, designing t-shirts and writing a song about inclusion. The children who attended represented RdC beautifully.
Our Gymnastics Team performed at the county finals in Chelmsford this weekend! It was a great competition, well attended with lots of talented gymnasts. The team also got to watch a special performance from Nicole, the current British Gymnastics champion! A big thank you to Mrs Huggins and Mrs Davey for their commitment to the team!
Year 3 have been mummifying tomatoes this week! They followed a set of instructions to complete the process, and then made their own instructional video!

A huge thank you to everyone who dressed up and donated! The winners were Maddison (Y6), Olivia (Y5), Callum (Y4), Lily (Y3), Jasper (Y2), Sonny (Y1) and Mazie-Grace (EYFS). The winners received a book token.
