Year 4 received their first ukulele lesson this week. It was great to see all the children getting involed and engaging in learning a new instrument. Ms Goldsmith and Mr Webb from Essex Music Service delivered the lesson to the children. The duo will be giving Year 4 lessons every week.

Children have dressed up in red or superhero outfits today. Each class is holding a talent show and taking part in various Red Nose Day activities. The kitchen have also made a special red velvet cake for lunch today. Click here to donate to our JustGiving page.

North West Essex School Sports Partnership will be offering a virtual after school sports club exclusively to students in our school and the North West Essex School Sports Partnership.
The weekly club will start next Thursday 11th February from 4 pm – 4.30 pm and will be delivered by Dean Gilder, who is a PE teacher and head of year 11 at The New Rickstones Academy in Witham.

Thank you to everyone for making this year's Children in Need celebrations special. The children enjoyed dressing up in 'spots and yellow'. As a school we raised over £300 for this worthy cause!

Last week's Reading together session on World Book Day was a phenomenal success. The hall was packed with parents and children - ALL reading together! The children loved their bookmarks, which were carrots or pumpkins. There are 17 bookmarks to collect....which one will be given out this week?

On Sunday 8th March, Richard de Clare gymnastics travelled to Chelmsford Gymnastics Club to participate in the floor and vault County Final, having won our area competition. We are through to the national finals in May.

A massive congratulations to the Sports Hall Athletics Team for competing in and winning the Level 2 finals on Monday. It was a great event and the children showed amazing teamwork and determination!
This means we will now be attending the county championships at Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre on Wednesday 11th March, competing as part of the top 14 schools in Essex.

Our Seasonal Celebration performances have now finished. Thank you to everyone who came. Each year group also produced a hamper to raffle off at each performance. We raised an amazing £289 to go towards our defibrillator!

Thank you to everyone who donated to Children in Need! We had a disco in the playground, 50p a go games and we even made a Pudsey out of pennies! Year 6 sold Pudsey ears and wristbands throughout the week. A Year 6 pupil also raised money for Bowel Cancer UK, a charity which is very close to their heart, and raised an amazing £242!

Well done to the school's Football Team who represented the Halstead/Hedingham area in the Level 2 Football Finals at Witham Town Football Club today. It was a very tough and close competition. The boys finished the tournament 2nd place with 1 win 2 draws and 1 loss. Their next event will be a 6 a side tournament on Thursday 21st November at Notley Discovery Centre.

A big thank you to all the parents who sent in flowers today for the Flower Festival. Sainburys also donated some flowers. The residents of Colne View and Riverside Court were overwhelmed by our children's generosity, behaviour and maturity.

The Book Bus came to visit us today. Children from Year 4, 5 and 6 swapped some of our library books for new ones. The children can't wait to get reading!

Year Five enjoyed an exciting trip to The Ramsey Academy this week as part of their topic on The Ancient Greeks and ceramics. They learnt new skills and made clay pots that will be fired and then painted at school. The children found making the pots a good challenge but they had great fun making them and they learnt a lot. Thank you to The Ramsey Academy for hosting the sessions.

Last weekend, Imogen in Year 5 competed in Halstead Club Championships and not only did she break club records for her age in the 50m and 200m Breaststroke, she is now ranked No.1 in the whole of Britain! Her parents and the school are incredibly proud of her acheivements.

A huge congratulations to the Year 5/6 Football Team for winning the Level 1 football finals at The Ramsey Academy. The boys played brilliantly as a team and there were also some excellent individual performances. We scored 15 goals and conceded 0 in 3 matches. This means we progress to the Level 2 finals at Witham Football Club on Wednesday 6th November.

Oak Class have been studying the artist Kandinsky. His work feature lots of different shapes, especially circles. The children had to roll strips of paper up using a variety of colours to create their pictures. Next they went onto create pictures using concentric circles, circles within circles. They worked really hard with a partner.
