Creative Arts Week

Everyone embraced our Creative Arts week and helped to make it a truly special week. The range of creativity was staggering! We all enjoyed the week; singing, dancing, painting, drawing, sculpting, playing musical instruments, taking part in sporting activities, performing, being a wonderful audience, baking, modelling, sewing, folding, telling jokes, writing, creating computer art and even a website...the list goes on.

Our whole school sculptures  will be on show around the school soon- so keep an eye out for these.

Well done everyone....Your Teamwork and creativity has been  AMAZING!

We’re teaming up with

World Wildlife Fund

for a very special nature-themed challenge that will inspire you to stand up for the planet!

Our Wild World Heroes live in Wilderville, a pretty cool place but there are lots of things that the Wild World Heroes can do to make their town even better for the people and animals that live there.

Wild World Hero 6 book challenge

You will need to read 6 books to help the Wilderville children make a different to the environment. For each library book you read you will collect stickers for your special folder. If you complete the challenge you will receive a certificate and medal.

Drop Everything And Read (DEAR)

The whole school has been involved in DEAR this week as part of our Reading Week. The children have loved stopping what they have been doing and READING! 

The children have also been visiting the library for story time and reading outside in the sunshine.

Air Ambulance Assembly

Year 5 and 6 had a 'socially distanced' assembly hosted by Essex Air Ambulance Service. The children learnt about the work of the pilots, doctors and paramedics who help to save lives around Essex. 

Reading Week 14th-18th June

Next week we will be celebrating everything about Reading. Each class will visit the school library. Everyone in school will participate in DEAR (drop everything and read) activities, in many different areas of the school grounds! The children may write book reviews. They also may become a librarian for the day!

Extreme Reading Challenge

Where is the strangest place you have ever read a book? Have a picture taken of you reading a book in the weirdest, wonderful and/or position.

Post it on your Dojo portfolio, email it or bring it in to school - Dojo points await!

Also, Double points awarded during our Reading week – so you more you read the more stickers you could earn for your reading chart and be one step closer of winning the Reading Trophy!

Virtual Art Lesson

Our Reception Classes took part in a virtual art lesson with artist, Jenny Leonard. The theme was 'Under the Sea'. The children were asked to use lots of different felt tips to draw bubbles on a bath, an under the sea scene and then an octopus. This work was linked to the project we have been completing with the Octopus Ahoy Team. Great fun was had by ALL!

Well done to everyone who took part in the World Book Day Challenges. We received fantastic photographs of the children dressed up as their favourite book characters. It was great to see their reading dens which included some wonderful and fun places to read books. The food challenges were amazing- very imaginative- all were cleverly crafted to link to their favourite books.

During our live lessons the children shared their most cherished books and engaged with a host of reading activities with their class teacher. A fabulous day was had by all!

Nursery Visit the Library

Our Nursery children have started visiting the library to listen to stories and develop a love of books. They are going every week and as you can see they were all totally engrossed in the story they were listening to.

Year 4 Ukulele Lessons

Year 4 received their first ukulele lesson this week. It was great to see all the children getting involved and engaging in learning a new instrument. Ms Goldsmith and Mr Webb from Essex Music Service delivered the lesson to the children. The duo will be giving Year 4 lessons every week. 

Red Nose Day 2021

Virtual PE Club

North West Essex School Sports Partnership  will be offering a virtual after school sports club exclusively to students in our school and the North West Essex School Sports Partnership.

The weekly club will start next Thursday 11th February from 4 pm – 4.30 pm and will be delivered by Dean Gilder, who is a PE teacher and head of year 11 at The New Rickstones Academy in Witham.

Children in Need 2020

Thank you to everyone for making this year's Children in Need celebrations special. The children enjoyed dressing up in 'spots and yellow'. As a school we raised over £300 for this worthy cause!

Following the announcement from the Government that school closure will not be "an educational setting" but a "safe place" for critical workers to leave their children and the publication of the ‘key worker’ list, we need to collect details of which families fall into this group so we can plan accordingly.

World Book Day and Reading Together

Last week's Reading together session on World Book Day was a phenomenal success. The hall was packed with parents and children - ALL reading together! The children loved their bookmarks, which were carrots or pumpkins. There are 17 bookmarks to collect....which one will be given out this week?

 

Gymnastic County Champions!

On Sunday 8th March, Richard de Clare gymnastics travelled to Chelmsford Gymnastics Club to participate in the floor and vault County Final, having won our area competition. We are through to the national finals in May. 

Sports Hall Athletics County Finalists

A massive congratulations to the Sports Hall Athletics Team for competing in and winning the Level 2 finals on Monday. It was a great event and the children showed amazing teamwork and determination!

This means we will now be attending the county championships at Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre on Wednesday 11th March, competing as part of the top 14 schools in Essex.

Seasonal Celebrations

Our Seasonal Celebration performances have now finished. Thank you to everyone who came. Each year group also produced a hamper to raffle off at each performance. We raised an amazing £289 to go towards our defibrillator! 

Children in Need 2019

Thank you to everyone who donated to Children in Need! We had a disco in the playground, 50p a go games and we even made a Pudsey out of pennies! Year 6 sold Pudsey ears and wristbands throughout the week. A Year 6 pupil also raised money for Bowel Cancer UK, a charity which is very close to their heart, and raised an amazing £242!

Remembrance Service
